SEMINAR 3 - Trusted Computing

Talk by: Mr. Usama

The most importance word that Mr Usama always said in this seminat is TRUST.

An object is trusted if and only if it operates as expected. An object is trustworthy if and only if it is proven to operate as expected

There are few components of the trusted computing which is:

  • Trusted Computing (TC)
  • Trusted Platform (TP)
  • Chain of Trust
  • Fundamental Features of Trusted Platform
  • Trusted Computing Group's (TCG) Specifications
  • Trusted Platform Module (TPM)

SEMINAR 2 - Intrusion Detection Together with Critical Nodes Detection for Securing MANET

Talk by Mr. Satria Mandala

MANET is
  • A set of wireless mobile hosts that form a temporary network without the aid of any centralized administration or support.
  • Mobile nodes operates not only as a host but also as a router.
There are two types of issues in MANET which is :

  • External attack VS Internal attack
  • Passive attack VS Active attack

Before develop IDS in MANET, the attack to MANET should be recognize first. List bellow is some of the attack thak can be found in MANET:

  • Black hole attack
  • Wormhole attack
  • Denial of Service
  • Impersonation
  • Routing attack

IDS:
  • The implementation of intrusion detection systems in ad hoc networks in hindered by the inherent characteristics of these networks.

  • These characteristics were examined and their significance were observed.
  • Va rious proposed IDS architectures and methodologies were also explored as well as the discussion of their strengths and weaknesses.
  • The future of ad hoc IDS depends mostly on the statistical properties of ad hoc network’s routing behaviors.

SEMINAR 1- VPN

Talk by : Mr. Khalid

In this seminar, Mr Khalid has told us about Virtual Private Network (VPN).

VPN is one solution to establishing long-distance and/or secured network connections. VPNs are normally implemented by businesses or organizations rather than by individuals, but virtual networks can be reached from inside a home network. Compared to other technologies, VPNs offers several advantages, particularly benefits for wireless local area networking.

Besieds, VPN has attracted the attention of many organizations looking to both expand their networking capabilities and reduce their costs.

However each organization should consider this issue when impliment the VPN:

1. VPNs require detailed understanding of network security issues and careful installation / configuration to ensure sufficient protection on a public network like the Internet.

2. The reliability and performance of an Internet-based VPN is not under an organization's direct control. Instead, the solution relies on an ISP and their quality of service.

3. Historically, VPN products and solutions from different vendors have not always been compatible due to issues with VPN technology standards. Attempting to mix and match equipment may cause technical problems, and using equipment from one provider may not give as great a cost savings.

Today, the Internet is more accessible than ever before, and Internet service providers (ISPs) continue to develop faster and more reliable services at lower costs than leased lines. To take advantage of this, most businesses have replaced leased lines with new technologies that use Internet connections without sacrificing performance and security. Businesses started by establishing intranets, which are private internal networks designed for use only by company employees.
